EV charging where you already stop.

Ohmpere builds and runs charging hubs at shopping centres, gyms, hotels and offices in South Africa. You charge while you shop, train or eat. The property owner gets a charging hub without buying the equipment.

One charger per stop isn't a network.

We drive EVs. On the road and around Cape Town we kept finding the same thing: one charger, already in use, or out of order.

Electric cars are no longer rare in the Western Cape, but public charging hasn't kept pace with where people actually go. Many sites have a single unit. A lot of the public bays in the northern suburbs are slower AC chargers. Some are listed online and don't work when you arrive.

When one car is plugged in, the next driver waits. When the charger is down, everyone waits. Adding capacity at busy places matters as much as adding new places.

Capacity is the product. A hub with several bays and a mix of AC and DC charging doesn't leave drivers circling.

Your stop, in kilometres.

Most people spend 30 minutes to two hours at a shopping centre, gym or restaurant. That is enough time to charge. Pick a stop and see what it adds to your range.

Your car decides how fast it accepts AC power. Most EVs sold in South Africa take 11 kW.

Calculating…

Estimate only. We assume 17 kWh per 100 km, 90% charging efficiency on AC, an average of about 75 kW on DC up to 80% charge and slower above that. Real results depend on the car, the weather and the battery's temperature.

Six bays to start. Room for twelve.

An Ohmpere hub mixes slower AC bays for people who stay a while with DC fast chargers for people who don't. The layout is fixed only after we've measured the site's electrical supply.

  • DC fastTwo 60 to 120 kW chargers for drivers who need range quickly. Sized to what the site's supply can carry.
  • Load controlSmart load management shares power with the building and throttles charging before the centre reaches its limit, so we avoid expensive grid upgrades where possible.
  • PaymentBank card, QR code, app or RFID card. No subscription and no membership needed.
  • UptimeEvery charger is monitored remotely. Faults raise an alert and a technician call-out. Our target is at least 97% availability per site.

  • GrowthDucting and board space for up to twelve bays, a solar canopy and a battery, added when the numbers support them.

We fund it, build it and run it.

For shopping centres, hotels, office parks, gyms, wine estates and residential developments. Your property becomes a reason for EV drivers to visit, and to stay longer.

You provide

  • Six or more parking bays in a visible spot
  • Access to the electrical supply and its drawings
  • Permission to install, and space for signage
  • A site agreement for an agreed term

Ohmpere provides

  • The capital for chargers and installation
  • Electrical design, approvals and the certificate of compliance
  • Civil and electrical works, signage and lighting
  • Payment platform, customer support and marketing
  • Monitoring, maintenance and insurance
  • Monthly usage and revenue reports

Revenue share

We fund the hub. Charging revenue is split between Ohmpere and the property owner by an agreed formula.

Our preferred starting point

Fixed concession

We pay a fixed monthly fee for the bays and keep the charging revenue. Predictable income for the owner.

Hybrid

A smaller fixed fee plus a share of charging revenue, so both sides gain as the hub gets busier.

  1. First conversation

We present the concept and learn about the site, its parking and its tenants.

  2. Site and electrical study

We inspect the parking and measure spare supply capacity before proposing a layout.

  3. Agreement

Site area, term, commercial model, signage and expansion rights.

  4. Build

Design, procurement, civil and electrical works, testing and commissioning.

  5. Operate

Monitoring, maintenance and monthly reporting for the life of the agreement.

The electrical study comes first. We won't promise a 120 kW charger your supply can't carry, and we'll tell you if the site doesn't suit a hub.

Plug in, walk away, come back charged.

No app is required to charge at an Ohmpere hub. Prices per kWh are shown on the charger and in the app before you start.

Type 2 (AC)

22 kW bays. Your car may accept less, often 11 kW.

CCS2 (DC)

60 to 120 kW fast charging for a quick top-up.

The first hubs are planned for Cape Town's northern suburbs. Leave your email and we'll tell you when the first one switches on.

Public chargers across South Africa.

Public charging sites across the country, every plug type, live from Open Charge Map. Status shows whether a charger was last reported working. Most networks don't publish free-or-busy status yet; Ohmpere hubs will.

Loading chargers…

Charging first. Then the rest of the energy stack.

Chargers are only as good as the power behind them. As our hubs grow, so does the energy system around them.

A Cape Town company, started by EV drivers.

Ohmpere started on a road trip in September 2026, queueing at single chargers along the way. We came home and found the same gap in our own suburbs.

We're an independent, black-owned company. We plan to own and operate the hubs we build, so we care about the same thing drivers do: chargers that work when you arrive.

Questions we get asked.

Something missing? Ask us directly.

For drivers

Will my car work with your chargers?

Yes, if it uses the standard plugs: Type 2 for AC and CCS2 for DC. BYD, Geely and most new EVs sold in South Africa use both.

Do I need to download an app?

No. You can pay by tapping a bank card or scanning the QR code on the charger. The app is there if you want charging history, alerts and receipts in one place.

How much will it cost?

Each hub shows its price per kWh on the charger and in the app before you start. You only pay for the energy your car takes.

What if a charger isn't working?

Every charger reports its status to us in real time and a fault triggers a call-out. You can also report a problem from the QR page on the charger.

When does the first hub open?

Our first sites are in development in Cape Town's northern suburbs. Leave your email and we'll tell you the day it goes live.

For property owners

Do we pay anything upfront?

No. Ohmpere funds the chargers and installation. You provide the bays and access to the electrical supply under a site agreement.

What if our supply is already close to its limit?

Smart load management lets the chargers use spare capacity and back off when the building needs it. Where that isn't enough, we size the DC chargers down or plan a battery. We measure first, then design.

How long does it take?

Typically six to twelve months from the first meeting to switch-on. Most of that is the electrical study, approvals and equipment lead times, and several steps run in parallel.

Who maintains the chargers?

We do, for the full term. Remote monitoring, scheduled maintenance, repairs and customer support are all on us.

Can we add solar later?

Yes. We plan every hub with space and ducting for a solar canopy and a battery, so they can be added without digging up the parking again.
